I started a PhotoBlog today. I do plan to keep that up to date. This blog is a lost cause for now. I’ll fix it up eventually I suppose. But for now (for lac of a better name) the temporary/possibly-permanent name of my new photoblog is John has a PhotoBlog. Check it out when you get a chance.

This site needs a major overhaul…

I Haven’t Posted In A While

h1 Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

I’ve been busy changing jobs and moving and lots of other stuff…
I still have a painting I did back in October (I think it was October) that I will post soon…
I will (soon hopefully) make a new section full of puzzles and riddles. Some of the puzzles and riddles I will post are questions I was asked to solve during job interviews. They’re lots of fun to try and figure out!

Wilma was too close for comfort - Hurricane tracker

h1 Monday, October 24th, 2005

All these hurricanes have been making me a little nervous. My grandmother lives right near Naples, FL, right where hit Florida. Its a good thing she evacuated to Jacksonville. I hope there isn’t too much damage when she gets back.

Here is a great tool to see the paths of the hurricanes…

Learning Spanish - Verbix (Great Tool)

h1 Thursday, October 20th, 2005

I hope to speak Spanish fluently one day…
I have taken a few Spanish classes. And I know I could make alot of progress learning if I just memorize words and memorize the conjugation structure.

Here is a great tool for conjugations…
Verbix
This is a very good tool that will give you all the conjugations for a word or verb in Spanish (I think it does other languages too)

Fire updates LA @ MrJMW.com

h1 Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Well, hasn’t been good the past few days….

Last night, The 118 freeway was closed (due to the fires), and the 101 was really bad because of it. So me and my car pool buddy decided to go to PCH and take the streets through West LA and Hollywood to get from Agoura Hills to Burbank. It took us over 2 hours to get home that way. Mostly because of street traffic in Hollywood. I don’t know if we would have got home faster on the 101 or not.

This morning me and my buddy headed off to work at about 7:15am as usual. I got a message from my mom saying that they were evacuating Agoura Hills and other areas due to the fires. I got in contact with my boss and let him know. We kept on heading for work until we heard that up by Kanan in Agoura Hills the freeway was a disaster. So we got off the freeway at the end of the SF Valley before heading up there. We stopped at a Starbucks in Woodland Hills and talked to a lady who said she was evacuated and that everybody from Agoura Hills had been getting phone calls all night long, saying to evacuate. Then we got a call from work saying not to come in today. So we headed back. And now, I have a manditory day off, (without pay I’m sure).

Hope they can get those brush fires under control soon..

Not If But When: So. Cal Earthquake

h1 Thursday, September 15th, 2005

The disaster that brought is a great tragedy. Many peoples lives have been lost. Homes have been destroyed and the lifestyles of an entire metropolis of people (and more) have been drastically changed.

We have all heard about this terrible tragedy that recently took place in Lousiana. But many of us have a somewhat detached view of what is going on over there. All I know of it is from the radio. I don’t watch tv and I haven’t even taken the time to look at the paper to see pictures and read about it. Even for all those that watch the news and see all the footage of the aftermath, nobody is really being affected like those who are living through this or who have family that are. Like many others I want to help and it seems like the only thing I can really do, is donate money. They will be needing money to repair and rebuild for a long time from what I hear.

Personally, being detached from this event as I am, I confess that some of the thoughts that first came to mind after hearing about this disaster, where about the coming “Big One” that is reported to definately hit Southern California one day. I was told (in 1998) by my science teacher in high school that within 50 years a large from the would occur. And that it wasn’t a matter of if but when.

The American Red Cross

After hearing of the destruction Katrina brought, I can only imagine the devastation that could occur in the Los Angeles metropolis if our infrastructure is destroyed. KFWB 980AM and KNX 1070AM in Los Angeles have recently but on a joint radio broadcast that is now available as a podcast via the web. If you live in California, I highly recommend you listen to it. It is titled and you can click the title to download it.
One of the notable things mentioned on this broadcast is that FEMA reported just before 9/11/2001 that the three largest disasters that our country is most vulnerable to are..

1) A terrorist attack in New York City
2) A major hurricane hitting Lousiana
3) A major earthquake erupting on the West Coast

There are also many tips on how to prepare for an earthquake.
It is overall very informative and I recommend listening to it.

After hearing the reports of Katrina and the destruction she caused, we know it can happen. And again, the experts claim, its not a matter of if but when for the West Coast.

Will you join us?

h1 Thursday, August 25th, 2005

A few things happened today.

First, today was the first day I car-pooled to work. A co-worker and I live in the same city, so we gave it a try. It worked out well, and we are trying to get other co-workers to join us, when possible. I have been at this job for about two months, and it is about an hour commute in traffic, each way (most of the time). So I am really looking forward to car-pooling regularly.

Second, I finished a canvas today that says “FUEL”. It also has a reference to on it. I chose this word in an attempt to add meaning to my paintings. I have known about the upcoming energy crisis for about a year now. This painting’s “message” is to raise awareness about energy, and how it affects are lives, now and in the future.

Chevron has put up a site to raise awareness of this fact
If a major gasoline company is putting up a site like this, you know this is serious.
The following is quoted from the site…

“Energy will be one of the defining issues of this century. One thing is clear: the era of easy oil is over. What we do next will determine how well we meet the energy needs of the entire world in this century and beyond.” WillYouJoinUs.com/Vision

My father recently worked for an oil company. This company bought a military oil reserve that was sold during the Clinton era. It costs them less than $15 to produce a barrel of oil and currently oil is about $65 a barrel. So they have been pumping oil as fast as they can. Read the rest of this entry ?

The World Wide Web has provided the common man the opportunity and ability to publish whatsover he chooses with an ease never before seen in history. Once published on the web, a document, be it a photogragh, article, story, lesson or anything, is accessible to anyone with an internet connection. Whether they live in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Antarctica or the Moon, If someone has access to the internet, they can obtain all information made publicly available. Read the rest of this entry ?

This site is coming along. It is still kind of under construction. I have integrated Gallery into it, thanks to the WPG2 plug-in. I have also set up my Google Adsense account to learn how to set this up on this site and others. Here’s some ads…

Welcome

h1 Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Welcome to the weblog of Mr JMW. JMW are my initials. I use JMW to sign my art and I have made a logo out of my initials JMW

I really wanted to get JMW.com for my domain name but its taken. So MrJMW.com was the best thing I could think of. And its not that bad, it is short, easy to remember and after all, I am Mr. JMW

For now this is still in the making. I have been doing some graphic design and trying to get the layout straight. This site is powered by Word Press which is written in PHP. So far I like it and we will see where this goes

Hi Mom!

h1 Saturday, August 6th, 2005

Well, this is the almost official launch of my website. It is a blog site and I hope to use it to gather all my thoughts, pictures, and computer stuff together for my self and for the whole world via the WWW (World Wide Web).

It may have a bit more work that needs to be done but I set up most of it. Hopefully, I won’t have to make anymore serious changes to the site. Then all that’s left is adding the content.

One of the main aspects of this site (the Gallery) is up and my portfolio is probably the first album I will work on filling with pictures. Here is a link to it…
