Graffit art and the web…

h1 Monday, March 10th, 2008

When I first started this site I put some of my graffiti art canvas pictures on it and some interesting things started happening.

First, I misspelled Graffiti with “graffit” and that seemed to actually be a good thing. Google picked up my pics as “graffit” and I was on the first page of google images for “graffit” or “graffit art” for a while. Only after I fixed the spelling mistake did I eventually get removed from the first “graffit” images page.

Second, some of the people that found my work started hot linking images of my canvases on there myspace page as backgrounds. I didn’t like this at first because I wanted my site here (mrjmw.com) to get credit for being the source of those pictures. So I put a watermark on them with my sites name, and soon, they stopped hotlinking.

As you can see I’ve basically abandoned mrjmw.com for the time being. But considering the above, I’ve decided to target graffit and encourage the hotlinking of my images. Hopefully, I’ll see some more traffic from the graffit keyword. And to encourage people to hotlink my images I’ve set up a small portifolio page at mrjmw.com/art . From there you can access all of my graffiti canvas images and sketches etc. I will have no watermarks on these images, only the one of my name/logo “JMW” if it is not already in the painting itself.

Now I’m not trying to promote this website as much (take a look and you can see why lol) but I’m trying to promote my name as an artist. Also, I’m not really going to try to promote agressively. I’m really just wanting to have fun creating some art and have a somewhat organized place on the web where I can share it with others.

I have been blogging a little at photoblog.mrjmw.com and I hope to do more of that when I get the chance.

Peace everyone!

The definition of “Meta” (Graffiti Art Canvas)

h1 Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

A while back I had a job interview with a man who… well… I think he wants to take over the world! (but that’s a story for another day maybe). Anyway, he was very smart, he asked me some of the questions that will show up soon in the section. He also introduced me to the word “Meta”. It was a word that interested me (and I liked the letters and the word), so I did a of it. According to one entry on Dictionary.com “meta” means…

“A prefix meaning one level of description higher. If X is some concept then meta-X is data about, or processes operating on, X.”

For example, a meta-discussion would be a discussion about a discussion, meta-information is information about information. A meta-painting would be a painting of a painting (I guess).

This isn’t exactly a true “meta-painting”, but it is a painting of the word “Meta”

“GLOBE” - Graffiti Art Canvas

h1 Saturday, October 29th, 2005

Last year my brother asked me to do a for his apartment. This was the first real art style painting I had done in 6 years or so. And it was the first in this series of canvases I’ve done in the past year. I started this sometime in November 2004, and I finished it on Christmas Eve and gave it to him Christmas Day.

Graffiti “Art” Canvas

h1 Saturday, October 8th, 2005

This canvas was done some time earlier this year. I plan to write about every image in my gallery. Giving background information as to the reason and inspiration for its creation.

art was my primary motivation for learning about and making . Since my teen years, I have developed an appreciation for many styles of traditional art. I am now ambitious to pursue oil, acrylic, and other traditional mediums. I have also learned something about making and I tremendously enjoyed it (I hope to get into making ceramics again in the future).

Art and Energy (Graffiti Art Canvas)

h1 Friday, September 30th, 2005

My most recent painting says “Fuel”, I chose to write the word “fuel” as an attempt to add more meaning to my . And also to raise awareness of the fact that (as Chevron puts it) “Energy will be one of the defining issues of this century.” I wrote a little bit about it in the post “Will You Join Us?.”

My Great Grandmother’s Etchings

h1 Monday, September 19th, 2005

I am an artist, and my great grandmother was an artist. She specialized in . This is a sketch she did at in , Italy, a long time ago.

Sketch in Italy by M.H.Wright

I believe she would sketch a site, then take it home and create the etching plate. I have scanned a few of her prints and I put them up in my gallery. I don’t know exactly when these were printed, but it was nearly 100 years ago.

From left to right these are titled:
“Beaver Meadow Brook” , “The Printer” , “Val de Grace” , and “ Boston”
