Mr. JMW

A few things happened today.

First, today was the first day I car-pooled to work. A co-worker and I live in the same city, so we gave it a try. It worked out well, and we are trying to get other co-workers to join us, when possible. I have been at this job for about two months, and it is about an hour commute in traffic, each way (most of the time). So I am really looking forward to car-pooling regularly.

Second, I finished a canvas today that says “FUEL”. It also has a reference to PeakOil.net on it. I chose this word in an attempt to add meaning to my paintings. I have known about the upcoming energy crisis for about a year now. This painting’s “message” is to raise awareness about energy, and how it affects are lives, now and in the future.

Chevron has put up a site to raise awareness of this fact WillYouJoinUs.com
If a major gasoline company is putting up a site like this, you know this is serious.
The following is quoted from the site…

My father recently worked for an oil company. This company bought a military oil reserve that was sold during the Clinton era. It costs them less than $15 to produce a barrel of oil and currently oil is about $65 a barrel. So they have been pumping oil as fast as they can. Read the rest of this entry ?

I have just become aware of the REBOL programming language. So far it looks like its able to perform high level networking operations with ease.

I’m currently looking into using REBOL to write CGI scripts. Here is the setup info I found…

Clasifis.com is a project a friend and I are working. We met in school and after I graduated, he helped me get a job at MiCasa.com . After I worked there for two months, he left and then I did too. Why? well the owner of that company still owes me a months pay. That is why I left.

Simple Battery Timer is a little program I wrote sometime during the first quarter of this year (2005). It is basically a utility for timing your laptop’s battery life. All it really does is show you what percentage of the battery was drained over what period of time. It shows you a few more battery metrics, but nothing extraordinary. Also it won’t start timing if your laptop is plugged in and it will stop timing automatically when you plug your laptop in.

My first ventures with Linux were about 3 years ago (or so) with Redhat 6.2 and Corel Linux. I didn’t get very far. I got them installed, even dual-booting Windows/Linux. But I couldn’t get my sound card setup, ethernet was a problem. And I couldn’t even figure out how to do the RPM thing and install downloadable software. I spent time trying but with little success, so I just stuck with Windows and didn’t touch Linux for a while.

Welcome to the weblog of Mr JMW. JMW are my initials. I use JMW to sign my art and I have made a logo out of my initials

I really wanted to get JMW.com for my domain name but its taken. So MrJMW.com was the best thing I could think of. And its not that bad, it is short, easy to remember and after all, I am Mr. JMW

For now this is still in the making. I have been doing some graphic design and trying to get the layout straight. This site is powered by Word Press which is written in PHP. So far I like it and we will see where this goes

Well, this is the almost official launch of my website. It is a blog site and I hope to use it to gather all my thoughts, pictures, and computer stuff together for my self and for the whole world via the WWW (World Wide Web).

It may have a bit more work that needs to be done but I set up most of it. Hopefully, I won’t have to make anymore serious changes to the site. Then all that’s left is adding the content.
